SKBWF stage demonstration for revised dearness allowance

Mangalore: The Members of South Kanara Beedi Workers Federation staged a demonstration in front of the office of Assistant Labour Commissioner at Bendoorwell here on Friday June 13.

With their demand to increase their dearness allowance the protest was held, the group of beedi workers assembled at the ground near Shanti Nilaya, Balmatta and marched towards the office of Assistant Labour Commissioner at Bendoorwell.

 During the protest the beedi workers pleaded with the authorities to raise their cost of living allowance, which is being delayed by owners of beedi companies from the month of April till date.

According to a directive issued by the Labour Bureau, the consumer price index for industrial workers has gone up by 705 for the current financial year 2014-15 and beedi workers should get 3 paise for every point or Rs 21.15 from April 1. But the payment has been delayed for beedi workers.

AITCU leaders P Sanjeeva, V Seetaram Berinja and H V Rai spoke in the demonstration addressing the beedi workers.

Activists Suresh Kumar, M Karunakar, Sulochana, Shivappa Kotian, Chitrakshi, Saraswati and several others participated in the demonstration.

A memorandum was submitted to the Assistant Labour Commissioner.
