
Mangaluru: The curtains came down on the world famous “Car Festival”, popularly known as ‘”Kodial Teru”, celebrated by the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin (GDB) community at Sri Venkataramana Temple, Car Street, Mangaluru, with a vibrant “Okuli” (holi) on Sunday, February 2.
Thousands of devotees were witnessed bathing in water and applying different colour powders on each other, as a symbol of oneness and brotherhood.
The idols of the deity Lord Veera Venkatesha and Lord Srinivasa were taken in a flower-decorated golden palanquin around the Car Street vicinity in a procession, by singing bhajans, variety of traditional band sets etc. The six-day ritual and celebration will conclude on Sunday night by bringing down the ‘Dhwaja’ (holy flag), after which prasadam will be distributed to the devotees.
