‘Shoor’, the Coast Guard ship arrives at NMPT

Mangaluru: An advanced ship, ‘Shoor’ of the Indian Coast Guard arrived to its base in Mangaluru on Tuesday.

The offshore patrol vessel, got commissioned by the Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Goa about two weeks back on April 11.

The New Mangalore Port received its fifth ship of the coast guard, with the arrival of the 105-meter long ‘Shoor’. It’s the largest ship of the Coast Guard in Karnataka.

The ship is built by M/s Goa Shipyard Ltd. It is capable of carrying a helicopter and five boats. ‘Shoor’ has advanced navigation and communication equipment and sensors. It can combat oil spill contamination at sea as it has pollution response equipment.

K R Suresh, Commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka who received the ship said that ‘Shoor’ increased the maritime security of Karanataka.
