Karkala : With the town of Karkala stinking, thanks to the apathy of the TMC administration, senior citizens of the town have come forward to form an organisation of their own to sensitize the public as well as to launch a cleanliness drive.

The campaign which will begin from near the Ananthashayana Temple Circle on May 18 at 9 am will be held upto the Taluk office link road.
K Ramakrishna, President of the Association who spoke to reporters here on Monday May 12 said the organisation will also hold social awareness programmes at prominent places. With monsoons just a few days away, there is the fear of spread of contagious diseases unless and until cleanliness measures are initiated.
A few months ago, there was a heated debate after an organisation had made use of the services of students for a cleanliness drive on major roads of the town. As criticisms poured in the Karkala TMC Chief Officer, President and others too participated in the cleanliness drive. But everything was short lived as the problem has cropped up again.
Though the issue of cleanliness was raised even in the TMC meeting by all members irrespective of party affiliations, it too was of little help. The citizens of the town are now hoping that the district administration would intervene to find a solution to the problem.
