Ullal : Someshwara Uchila in  Ullal is in the grip of acute sea erosion with the boulders dumped to prevent the onslaught of the sea, getting washed away by the giant tidal waves.

Local residents complain that boulders are being dumped  in an unscientific manner, as a temporary measure to prevent sea erosion. Presently two houses have been damaged while over ten houses are  facing danger, they say.

It may be recalled here that the State Minister for Health UT Khader who is also the local MLA, along with Deputy Commissioner and District in-charge minister had visited the place a few days ago after Someshwar Panchayat Member Chandrashekhar’s house was  damaged due to sea erosion. On this occasion, the DC had instructed to dump boulders from Uchila to Battappadi as a temporary remedial measure. The  stone dumping process is underway since the past one month.

However, contractors say  there are orders that boulders should not be dumped  across shore lines where there are no houses nearby,  In many places boulders dumped in the morning, are no more by evening. The houses of  Sugandhi and Vishwanath Mestri are already damaged and are facing fears of being completely destroyed  by the waves.
