Bantwal: SDPI Bantwal Assembly Segment Committee has demanded the police department to arrest the accused involved in the attack on SDPI activist at Sajipamooda here.
SDPI candidate for Sajipamuda Taluk Panchayat constituency Zakaria Mallick was attacked by miscreants on Monday.
SDPI District President Hanif Khan Kodaje addressing a news conference here said that attack on Mallick was a result of the envy of other party leaders who could not tolerate the growth of the SDPI at the grassroots level.
He said that the police top brass had promised action after the upcoming polls are over.
Stating that the SDPI has fielded candidates for two Zilla Panchayat constituencies in Bantwal and seven TP constituencies, Khan said that the party is confident of bagging both the ZP constituencies and at least five TP constituencies.
Injured candidate Zakaria Mallick, who was present at the press meet said that neither has he nurtured any personal vengeance against anybody nor does he know of someone who has vendetta against him.
He said that he was returning to his wife’s home in Bantwal after completing election campaigning work when miscreants waylaid him and assaulted him.
“While some had asserted that I should withdraw my nomination, I think the attack is connected to the elections,” said Mallick, who in his complaint has not mentioned any accused.
