Mangalore: A number of students belonging to primary schools in the Dakshina Kannada district will miss the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on Teachers’ Day as their schools are not ready with the arrangements.

Recently, the Directorate of Education (DoE) of the Delhi government issued a notification instructing all private as well as government schools to make arrangements for the broadcast of the Prime Minister’s address and a Question and Answer session with school children through television or through Internet from 3.00 pm to 4.45 pm.

Accordingly, the DCs of every zone have been directed to make arrangements of TVs, LCDs, screen and set top boxes for the intended project. The DoE notification came following an order by Ministry of Human Resources Development that all the schools throughout the country will have to make arrangements so that students can watch the Prime Minister’s live address on TV.

However, the intended plan may not see light of the day as most of the schools, particularly belonging to the rural places have no facilities such as television, access to internet and a screen to telecast the program.

In Bantwal alone, among the 196 schools, only 16 schools have access to television. And, not many schools have LED, sound and other important facilities required to telecast the program.

Teacher’s disappointed

In addition, the circular has also disappointed teachers, as most of the schools are preparing for competitions, including cultural programs on Teacher’s day. Incidentally, the telecast of Modi’s speech will take place in the evening, during which cultural programs are scheduled in the schools.

However, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Walter D’Mello said that watching Narendra Modi’s speech on teacher’s day is optional and left to the schools to decide. It is not compulsory for school to make arrangements, he said.
