Mumbai: Sixty-eight-year-old Dr K Sanjeev Shetty, Bheeshmacharya of Kannada passed away due to brief illness at Umrao Hospital, Mira Road (East) here on Thursday August 8 morning.
Dr Sanjeev was born on July 8 1945 in the family of Rayarabettu in Kubevoor village that comes under the limits of Mulky town panchayat of Mangalore taluk. He had done his early schooling at Kilpady School and Board School, Mulky. He migrated to metro and continued to work in a hotel during the day, and simultaneously studying in Progressive Kannada Night School, Parel, here. He had obtained M A and DHE degrees from Mumbai University (MU). He was awarded doctorate by MU for his thesis on Gemini Bharat, authored by Laxmisha.
He joined K J Somaiyya College as Kannada professor in 1973 and retired after serving there 32 years. He was active in social welfare activities after his retirement till his last. He was the mentor of several students pursuing doctorates. He was the president of Kannada union of Somaiyya College.
He had enriched Kannada as a member of faculty of arts. He had helped poor students to pursue higher studies, besides distributed uniforms, school bags and other materials to the students of municipal schools.
