Mangalore : A man from Kannur district in Kerala has been arrested by the customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport on August 22, Thursday for possessing nearly 12 kg of Iranian saffron.

The arrested man is  Abdul Rasheed (29) from Mattannur in Kannur. He had arrived by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai. The value of the seized saffron is  said to be around Rs 12 lakhs. The customs officials found the saffron concealed in a carton in between clothes in the luggage of the passenger. It is learnt, the seized saffron of Begonia brand is mostly used in bakery products.

The arrested passenger has been produced before the court.
