Mangalore :Run for Unity a rally was organized by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel metal collection committee, Dakshina Kannada to mark the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel today.

Remembering the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, thousands of people participated in the Run for Unity rally.

The Gujarat Governments most touted project of installing 182 mts tall iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, going to be the tallest statue in the world is in the making and this statue is going to be made out of the used iron farm equipment collected throughout the nation.

College students and general public took part in the 2-km run from Dr Ambedkar Circle and culminated at Nehru Maidan, which was flagged off by  MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and M Ganesh Rao of Karavali Group of Colleges jointly.

Speaking to reporters Dr Y Bharath Shetty, convener of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue metal collection committee, DK, said that 3,500 people registered their names before the run while over 1000 registered on the spot.

BJP leaders including MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC Monappa Bhandary, Yogish Bhat, Capt Brijesh Chowta, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, M B Puranik, Kishor Kumar, Nagaraj Shetty, Ranjan Gowda among others took part in this marathon.

The participants were given with certificates at Nehru Maidan. The event was organized in a bid to collect iron metal to build Sardar Vallabhbhai Patels statue in Gujarat.
