Bangalore: In spite of 3 years passed since state education department introduced Right to Education (RTE) Act, there has been no significant improvement in the admissions by the students who shunned free education, reported the survey undertaken by by Child Rights and You (CRY).
CRY activists under the banner Learning Blocks undertaken survey in 71 districts of 13 states to assess the basic amenities available in school, all weather-proof building, toilets, drinking water facilities, compound walls, students and teachers ratio etc. The survey revealed RTE Act has not been fully implemented.
The activists undertaken the survey in 747 schools located in 71 districts of key states – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Jarkhand, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and also New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The survey revealed that girls are chiefly shunning admissions for lack of basic amenities such as drinking water facility and separate toilets.
It is significant that if the basic amenities are developed in schools, the RTE Act will be efficiently implemented, hoped Learning Blocks CEO Pooja Marwah.
