Udupi: Udupi CMC President P Yuvaraj, while presenting the budget in a special meeting on Saturday February 22 said that all sectors have been equal importance while allocating grants. The new budget showed the receipts at Rs. 74.96 crore while the expenditure has been projected at Rs. 73.44 crore.

The budget has touched every aspects like for housing, electricity, water, bus stand, road development, food path, street lights, supply hi-tech public toilets and special care is been given to SC/ ST to other Backward Classes, he added.
Accordingly the expected major revenue through CMC and different grants in aid in the year 2014-15 are as follows, from CMC -Rs 7.05 crore through Self Assessment Scheme (SAS) for property tax, water distribution charges Rs 7.00 crore. Rs 10 crore through rents from Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns (IDSMT) commercial complex and trading centers. Under grants- in-aid from State Finance Commission a sum of Rs 1.65 crore is expected and Paryaya grant of Rs. 3 crore is also expected soon.
He also mentioned that the budget allocation in different areas are Rs 5.66 crore for management and administration purposes, Rs 2.5 crore for maintenance of road, drainage and food path. Repairs and maintenance of existing roads will be granted Rs 1.10 crore,for streetlights and new connection 1.85 crore, water distribution and new pipe line Rs.3.65 crore and Rs 1.9 crore for solid waste management.
Few major proposals are RS 100 Crore for underground Drainage system in Manipal, Malpe, Puttur and Santhekatte, repairs and maintenance of open wells. Rs 4.55 crore has been earmarked under UIDSSMT project for road widening of the Malpe- Moalkalmuru, Old Taluk office to Mission hospital, Bannaje to Kinnimulki, MIT Manipal to Parkala stretch.
The opposition councillors including Dinakar Shetty and Vasathi Shetty put forward few suggestions and said budget needs to give more importance to water sources. Dredging is one of the important aspects to maintain water level in the summer. The removal of the silt accumulation at the Baje dam will resolve the water supply problem up to certain extent, they asserted.
