Rs 30.60 lac Gold haul at Mangalore Airport

Mangalore: The custom officers arrested a passenger and seized four gold pieces worth Rs 30.60 lac here at Mangalore International Airport on Monday March 10, 2014.

The passenger is identified as Muhammad Kunhi Cheeri Kundu (39), a resident of Cheruvathur from Kasaragod. He was caught with four gold pieces, totally weighing 1000.130 grams and valued at Rs 30, 60, 398.

He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on March 10 by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai.

Krishna Kumar Prasad, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport, B Prabhakara Poojary, superintendent, Lionel Fernandes, Sendhil Murugan, B A Kariappa, H G Yogesh and inspectors G Kumaraswamy, and Virender Kumar and Hawaldar K S Ravindra carried the operation.

The accused was produced before the magistrate. Further investigation is under progress.
