Roy Castelino takes charge as Konkani Academy Chief

Mangalore : Roy Castelino, the new President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has assured to put in maximum efforts towards the development of Konkani language and literature.

He was speaking after taking charge  as the Academy President at a function held at the Academy office in the city on March 6, Thursday.

Castelino further also  said  measures  need to be taken to ensure more children opted to study Konkani language in schools.

Earlier, JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South handed over the appointment letter to Castelino. He also wished success to the new Chairman of the Academy.

Devadas Pai, Registrar of the Academy, spoke on the occasion and introduced Castelino to the gathering. He said Castelino, a builder has strived hard for the development of the language.

Past Presidents of the Academy namely Basti Vaman Shenoy, Narayan Kharvi, Eric Ozario and  Kasargod Chinna were present.

Victor Karkala compered the programme.

Other appointed members of the Academy for the year 2014-15 are : Jayaram Narayan Siddi, Shekhar Gowda, Kamalaksha Shet, Dr Chethana Nayak, Dr Aravind C Shanbagh, Ashok Kasargod, Kamalaksha Shet, Yagoob Ahmed, Dr Varija Nirebail, Mamatha Kamath and  MM Miran.
