Moodabidri: Bajrang Dal leader Samithraj has been arrested by the Moodabidri police on charges of hatching a murder conspiracy.

Samithraj a resident of Dharegudde was also involved in several violent clashes after Prashanth Poojary was killed last year. Samith is also wanted in several other cases too.

CCB team led by Inspector Valentine D’souza had taken Nataraj(25), Raviraj(29) and Subhash from Kavoor into custody on Wednesday for questioning for murder conspiracy on Swaraj Maidan in Moodabidri. The police had seized Maruti Omni and lethal weapons from them. The group was planning to murder a person from Moodabidri as directed by Bombay Kiran Shetty from Padumarnadu who is presently jailed in Mysuru.

It is learnt that the group was planning to kill a man from another community and disturb communal harmony in the society. They were also planning to take revenge against the killing of right-wing leader Prashanth Poojary. But another source added that the personal rivalry and inner-fight within local Bajrang Dal unit was also the reason behind attempt to murder.

Another person Sujith Shetty from Kallabettu involved in the murder conspiracy is yet to be arrested.

Arrested Samith Raj was produced before the court and has been sent to judicial custody.
