Mangaluru: A rice laden truck was captured near Maroli on Monday by the public on the suspicion of illegal transportation. The locals captured the truck and handed over the driver to Kadri police.

An official from the food and civil supplies department under the condition of anonymity told Newskarnataka that it was allegedly loaded at a unit of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Maroli. As per the law the rice cannot be used for commercial purposes.
The public caught the truck suspecting that it was illegally transporting rice without possessing pertinent documents. It is said that there could be as many as 60-70 sacks of rice in the lorry.The identity and whereabouts of the driver was not immediately, as the police are still investigating into the incident.
