Bantwal: D A Rehman Patel is a familiar face in BC road area. It is the same man who has been toiling on the busy roads of BC Road and Kaikamba areas to ease the traffic and now as a recognition to this selfless service of Patel, District police has appointed him as Traffic warden of Mangaluru city.

A resident of B Mooda here, 58-year-old Patel works in a private driving school. During his leisure, he dons the hat of traffic ‘cop’.

After his work is over, Patel without fail turns up at the flyover to do his bit for the society between 5 pm to 7 pm.

The traffic situation in Bantwal is in pathetic state. Traffic congestion is a common scene at busy locations. Though traffic station was formed in Bantwal some years ago, it is constantly reeling under manpower crunch. In such a situation service from Patel has surely come as a big help to the department.

Impressed by Patel’s service, Bantwal police had recently given him in writing that he can continue his service and now appointment of Patel as Mangaluru City traffic warden has come a great boost for him. The department has given him a uniform for the service- military green pants, white shirt and blue cap. He has also been given an ID card.

The concept of traffic wardens was introduced in Mangaluru in 2015 to bring in volunteers to function as traffic managers.
