Mangaluru: The third edition of the day-and-night “Rama-Lakshmana Jodukere Kambala”, organised to entertain the modern youth at Gold Finch City Grounds in Bangra Kuloor, was formally inaugurated on Saturday, January 25.

This folk game of Tulu Nadu has been organised under the leadership of Captain Brijesh Chowta, who is also a prominent leader of the district unit of the BJP. Kankanady Brahma Baidarkala Garadi president K Chitharanjan inaugurated the game.

As it is only the Kambala game that has been organised in the city limits, people gathered in large numbers to witness this folk game. As it is a day-and-night game, more people are likely to gather during the night. According to organiser Brijesh Chowta, over one lakh people are expected to come to witness this folk game during both times of the day.

Children from different schools have also witnessed the game, which was organised under different categories like ‘Kane Halage, ‘Hagga-Negilu’, ‘Adda Halage’ and others, in large numbers.

A separate spot was also arranged for people to take selfies, wherein an effigy of a buffalo was placed, and scores of people made use of this arrangement.

Meanwhile, articles pertaining to ‘Kambala’ and agriculture were also displayed on the occasion. Paintings on Kambala also grabbed the attention of the crowds during the programme.

During a public meeting entrepreneur Prakash Shetty was felicitated in the evening.  

Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, former MLCs Monappa Bhandary, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura,  former state president Harikrishna Punaroor, Sharada Group of Education Institution Chairman M B Puranik and others were present.
