Mangalore: The Tulunada  Rakshana Vedike held a meeting on February 27, Thursday to discuss the issues arising out of the failure of Bharathi Shipyard to offer jobs to local workers and also to oppose the encroachment of river and sea areas.

Addressing the meeting, Yogish Shetty Jeppu,  President the Vedike,  said the Bharathi Ship Yard preferred workers from outside rather than  local workers despite many of them  remaining jobless.

He  also  demanded the authorities concerned to take steps to ensure that the company gave job opportunities to locals.

He also informed that the Vedike fully backed the March 3 bundh call given by various pro-environmental organisations opposing the implementation of Netravathi Diversion Project.

Several leaders and workers of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike were present.
