Mangaluru: A raid on district jail has exposed the fact that despite measures, contrabands continue to flow into the prisons. As many as six mobile phones and three knives were recovered from the possession of undertrials during a raid conducted by police on Sunday morning, February 24.
Surprisingly, this raid was conducted within two days after the new commissioner of police Sandeep Patil took charge. According to the police sources, the raid was conducted followed by certain incidents, which happened near the jail premises. DCPs Uma Prashanth (crime and traffic) and Hanumantharaya ( law and order) were present during the raid. The incident yet again reveals that undertrials were in contact with the outside world with the help of mobile phones.
After the double murder of undertrials inside the district jail, many changes were made to foil quarrels and prevent easy access to ganja and weapons. The raid reveals that prison staff had again failed to prevent the smuggling of mobile phones and weapons into the jail barracks.
