Mangaluru: Distributing money or making hate speech during polls to attract the voters is quite common, but this time the election commission has launched an Android-based app, through which people can file a complaint by uploading the photos and videos and get suitable action against the offenders within 10 minutes.

Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil informed that this internet-based mobile app is called ‘cVgil’, which stands for ‘citizens vigil’. Through this system, people can upload photos or videos, pertaining to violation of election code of conduct. Soon after the complaint, the squad, which is meant for cVigil would visit the exact location within 10 minutes and file a report to district election officer, who would examine the case and settle the case within 100 minutes by taking suitable action against the law offenders, he informed.

He also informed that people can download the mobile app through ‘playstore’ and the app will work only when the model code of conduct is enforced. “Complainant’s information like contact number and identity will be kept as secret’, he informed.

Speaking about the preparations being made for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in DK district, Senthil said, new voters’ enrollment is being made through ‘minchina nondani’ (quick registration) in all polling booths in the district. The next quick registration process will take place on March 2 and 3 in all polling booths. If anyone does not find their name in the voters’ list, they can approach the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of their area and enrol their names into the voters’ list. People can check to know whether their name has been included in the list or not through website www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in, he informed.
