Rai asks SP to suspend 2 cops who assaulted lorry driver

Puttur : DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai has directed the SP to suspend two police constables who had reportedly thrashed a lorry driver at Sampya.

Speaking to reporters  here, Rai  said there was no question of tolerating such incidents. He said such acts of some police personnel would bring disrepute to the entire  department.

In this particular case, the accused constables Dayanand and Harish had badly beaten up the driver  Mohammad Nazir who had failed to stop the lorry at their direction.

Rai also asked the public to contact him directly in case anyone faced problems from the police.

Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty who was also present, demanded a thorough probe into the incident. She also requested Rai to ensure transfer of police personnel who have been serving a particular station for several years.

ZP member M S Mohammed and Puttur block Congress president Kavu Hemanatha Shetty  were also present.
