Mangaluru: Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy president Rahim Uchil met Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa recently and submitted a letter urging him to declare the Tulu language as the official language of the state.
Rahim, in his letter addressed to the Chief Minister, said that the Tulu language has been included as a third language in the curriculum for students from the sixth standard to SSLC, from 2009. It has already been included in the curriculum of graduation and post-graduation courses. He then urged the CM to declare Tulu as an official language of the state.
In his letter, Rahim also explained that people from the Konkani and Beary communities also speak Tulu and that the language meets all criteria to be an official language of Karnataka. He also informed that he would extend all his cooperation towards Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Dayananda Kattalsar’s efforts to include the Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution.
