Moodbidri: At the Gram Sabha of Puttige Gram Panchayat held on Tuesday July 8, villagers including Raitha Sangha President Dhanakeerthi Balipa, Vadiraja Madmannaya,  Vasudeva Nayak and others  urged the panchayat not to   permit any hydel project in the village without taking the  people into confidence. They said so in the backdrop of reports that a Bangalore based company had sought permission to take up a 7 mw mini hydel project at Nagundi in Puttige GP limits.

The villagers also demanded  clear cut information regarding the proposed  project and added as of now there is no information about the quantity of water that would  be stored  in the dam and the areas that will be submerged. Also   the land required for the project is also not known, they said.

Shashidhar P Nayak, former president of the Panchayat said the Panchayat has not given no-objection certificate to the project and added a meeting of villagers will be convened on July 18 to discuss the pros and cons of the project.
