Public thrash cattle smugglers who try to flee

Mangalore:In an incident reported from near Kudupu Temple on October 9, Wednesday, angry public brutally thrashed five men who were in a lorry that was allegedly smuggling as many as 20 cattle.

The incident took place after the speeding lorry hit a bike seriously injuring its rider. Even as the public rushed to the help of the injured bike rider Santosh, the lorry fled the place forcing the locals to give it a hot chase. However, before they could intercept the lorry, it went off the road when its driver lost control over the vehicle near Kumbashree Hall.

The public who caught hold of all the five men, thrashed them so badly that the condition of one of them is said to be critical.

Three of the five men who were inside the vehicle have been identified as Abdul Rehman, Sameer and Haneef.

The public found cattle inside the vehicle which was covered in tyre tubes and paddy chaff on top.

The lorry of  Udupi registration number had reportedly arrived with the cattle from north Karnataka region.

Kankanady Rural police are investigating the case.
