Public grievances pour in at Transport Adalat

Mangalore: Grievances pertaining to the public transport system poured in at the Transport Adalat   held at the Regional Transport Office in the city on Wednesday May 28.

BS Hasanabba who raised the issue of mandatory exit doors in   buses, said the exit door has led to many an untoward   incident   and    added that he would appeal to the RTO and the DC to reconsider the decision making exit doors mandatory. He also   appealed for suitable action to prevent buses   from   cutting short their Sunday trips to enable use of the buses for transportation of wedding parties.

Hanumanth Kamath of Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike   said most contract carriage buses though permitted only to travel upto Jyothi, run upto State Bank. The RTO officials turning a blind eye to the same reveals an unholy nexus between RTO officials and bus operators, he alleged.

The unscientific parking arrangements on prominent roads, the problems owing to signal free Hampankatta also came up for discussions. Some participants also raised the problem of ear shattering horns of buses, steep   footboard, misbehaviour of bus crew, occupying seats reserved for the disabled by others in buses etc, were also discussed.

Citizen representatives Yashawanth Shetty, Choodamani, Ashok Kumar Shetty, GK Bhat and others spoke. SB Surendrappa, ARTO of Puttur, Udupi RTO Arun Kumar Singh,   Mangalore RTO AA Khan, ARTOs GS Hegde, Sridhar Nayak, Ramesh Varnekar and others were present.
