Mangalore:The president of Campco Ltd., Konkodi Padmanabha has urged the central govt. to provide justice to the Areca planters by distributing the appropriate compensation to the planters affected by the disease of rottening of the tender areca.
He was addressing the press meet held in the campco office, Mangalore.
Mr. Padmanabha said that due to this disease about 1200 crores of Areca crop loss has been incurred. In Kerala state it has been about 800 crores. The condition of the areca planters ia very pathetic and the planters are struggling for their daily bread. Hence the central govt. has to intervene and distribute the appropriate compensation to the areca planters of Karnataka and Kerala state.
He also said that during the visit of chief minister of Karnataka by the deligation lead by campco, the CM has promised to take the appropriate decision.
When he was speaking about the current market rates of the Areca, he said that since the govt. has banned the areca import, the price is likely to increase in the future. He also said that the company will open its outlet at Porabander of Gujarat on 29th of September.
Later he shifted the focus of the press meet to the chocolate production unit set-up by the company.
He said that the company has set up a new plant to increase the chocolate production and has exported 780 ton’s of drinking chocolate to the African countries and has the target of exporting 1200 ton’s in the next year.
Vice-presidents Satishchandra Bhandary and Suresh Bhandary, Marketing executive Pramod, Accounts executive J S Shastri were present at the occasion.
