Prime accused in fake currency racket arrested after 10 years

Mangaluru: The prime accused in a fake currency racket, who was absconding for about 10 years, has been arrested by the City Crime Branch (CCB) police led by inspector Valentine D’Souza.

Moidin Kunhi alias Moidu (43), a resident of Bellare, Sullia, was arrested at Hunsur in Mysuru district.

A case had been registered against Kunhi in 1999 at the Mangalore North Police Station accusing him of printing and circulating fake currency in large quantities in Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod. He was later out on bail. During a trial in 2006, he did not turn up and went missing. He was since then, escaping law.

The others who were involved in the case were arrested and sentenced to 10 years in jail. Kunhi has been handed over to the Mangaluru North police.

It is said that Kunhi is wanted in several other cases as well.
