Karkala: In a swift operation, the police team led by Karkala SP Dr Sumana has succeeded in nabbing the main culprit in the Bailoor shoot-out incident from his residence in Hiriyadka.

In a shootout that took place on the night of June 15, the accused Praveen Kulal and his accomplices had tried to gun down the Zilla Panchayath member Sumit Shetty in Bylurpet area. The incident sent shock waves across the town and people were gripped in fear as attempts were made to kill people accompanying Sumit Shetty with daggers on the same night.

Sandeep and Deepak from Bailoor,Amit from Jodu Rasthe, Vasu from Kabettu and Sudhir from Nitte were injured in that horrific incident.

A special police team had earlier taken Vishwanth Poojary, Tilak Shetty, Chittaranjan and Dhanraj into their custody. A special team led by Karkala Sub Inspector Ravi was formed to nab the other accused within 24 hours.

The people in the town have complimented the efforts of the police team lead by the ASP Dr Sumana in restoring peace in the town in quick time. It may be recalled that the present Udupi SP Annamalai had succeeded in countering similar criminal elements when he was serving as the ASP in the town some time back.
