Karkala/Bantwal: BJP won the Taluk Panchayat elections in Karkala while Congress had the upper hand in Bantwal.

Former TP Vice-President Malini Shetty was elected as President where as Gopala Moolya was elected as Vice-President in the Karkala TP elections.
The strength of the Karkala TP was 20 members, out of which 19 members were the representatives of BJP. So, both the candidates won the elections unanimously.
On the other hand, Bantwal Taluk Panchayat saw Congress candidates Chandrahasa Karkera and Abbas Ali being elected as President and Vice-President respectively.
There was a reservation of general category for the post of President and backward class A category for vice president.
There was a tough competition for the post of president within the Congress party. Mudipu block Congress President Chandrahasa Karkera had an upper hand on Land Development Bank Vice-President Sanjiva Poojary as Karkera is a senior Congress member and former Taluk Panchayat vice president. Panemangaluru block President Abbas Ali was elected as the candidate for Vice-President.
Both the candidates filed their nominations to the election officer along with other party workers on Tuesday at 11 am. Tahasildar Panduranga Hegde and Executive Officer Cyprian Miranda conducted the election process.
Out of 34 members of Bantwal Taluk Panchayat, Congress has the majority with 22 members, and the BJP had won 12 seats which made Congress the ruling party.
