Mangalore : Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhan Poojari has said that he has failed to understand the reason why allegations are being hurled against the Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari and his family members now, a year after the Sowjanya murder case.
Speaking to reporters here on October 17, Thursday, he was critical of a few people who hurled allegations against the Dharmadhikari family. Stating that there was no eyewitness and only circumstantial evidence to the case, Poojari said when he had visited the Sowjanya’s family soon after the incident, they had said they had no doubts on anyone.
Poojari further questioned whether Heggade would have telephoned the then Home Minister Ashok and urge for a probe if at all his family was involved. It is wrong to hurl allegations and offend anyone until charges are proved, Poojari said. He also stated that some forces were hell bent upon tarnishing the image of Dr Heggade who was engaged in social work since decades.
He demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of Sowjanya and also a CBI probe into the case. In case the allegations against Dr Heggade are proved false then those who hurled such allegations should face action, he demanded.
Poojari further said he would be the first person to fight in case anyone furnishes evidences to prove charges against Heggade family or in case the officials fail to investigate on expected lines.
Vijaykumar Shetty, former MLA, Suresh Ballal, Harikrishna Bantwal, Congress leaders were also present at the press meet.
