Police issue guidelines for New Year celebrations

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police has issued 19 guidelines for New Year celebrations. Among them, the organizers are asked to end the celebrations by 12.30 on January 1.

City Police Commissioner said that all hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts and other organizations arranging the celebrations with their premises have to take prior permission from the commissioner. The permission letter should be produced before the jurisdictional police station, he said in a press release.

Smoking and consumption of alcohol is banned during the New Year celebration, which is being organized at bus shelters, parks, stadiums, railway station and other public places.

The release also stated that the youth and students not to misbehave in the name of celebrations. The police warned of strict action. Those who supply liquor beyond the stipulated time must obtain permission from the Excise Department and submit a copy of the permission to the jurisdictional police station.

Besides, the hotel/restaurants/club/resort owners should obtain permission for use of loud speakers. The managers of hotels, clubs should ensure that no untoward incidents take place, states press release.

Action force to monitor

The police have set up an action force to monitor the celebrations across the city. He cautioned the youth against indulging in wheeling and drag racing.
