Kasaragodu: Police fired tear gas shells to control a mob violence which erupted after the left wing activists allegedly pelted stones on BJP supporters taking part in a protest march on January 2.

Around five people were injured in the incident during a procession organised by the BJP district unit.
Within minutes after the procession began, BJP and CPM led activists started fighting against each other after few miscreants pelted stones.
Police resorted to lathi charge initially to control the violent mob but when their attempt failed, they resorted to firing tear gas shells.
Several people were injured in the clashes and lathi charge.
BJP had organised a procession from Cheruvathur to Cheemeni to protest against the “left wing violence” and intolerance in the recent past.
BJP district president led the procession which was flagged off by the district unit Vice President K P Sreeshan.
Tension prevails in the area and police are closely monitoring the situation.
