Mangalore: “The creation of a neutral police force is essential for reassuring the minority population and one of the first steps in this direction is to purge the force of criminal and communal elements”, said PB D’Sa, President of PUCL.

Addressing  media personnel on Tuesday February 25 at a press meet convened by PUCL and Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike,  D’Sa  referred to the recent violence at Ullal and said  that no  complaints were registered at the police station regarding harassment. He further added that baseless, mischievous rumours added an extra flare to the incident. He also stated that there are two parallel gangs of Mogaveer and Muslim youth in Ullal that take to drugs and engage in criminal activities.

Blaming it on the police officials, PB D’Sa said that the police who were deployed to prevent the formation of a mob and to immediately disperse any such mob have failed in their duty.

He moreover alleged that the police did not bother to visit the victims and obtain statements or prepare FIRs. Rather it was only done after the PUCL took it up with the Commissioner, he added.

Suresh Bhat, President of DK unit of Komu Sauharda Vedike,  Kabeer Ullal, District  Vice-President of  PUCL, Ismat Pajeer, Secretary  of the Vedike and Vishwanath R Putran, Vice-President AHINDA were present.
