Police Commissioner lays down guidelines for New Year Eve

Mangalore : In order to ensure that there will be no untoward incident during the New Year celebration the Police Commissioner has laid down certain guidelines to revellers, restaurateurs, owners of hotels, clubs, resorts and other social organizations.

As per the guidelines,  New Year parties have to end  by 12.30 am. In case of extension a written permission has to be taken by the Excise department. A copy of the permission letter should be given to the Police Station. However the party should be stopped compulsorily by 12.30 am.

People are prohibited from consuming alcohol or smoking in public places where New Year celebrations have been organized. Smoking and drinking is prohibited in bus stops, railway stations, public gardens and parks etc. Hotels and restaurants have to serve liquor only during the period specified by the Government.  All the owners have been directed to apply for the permit before December 31, 4pm from the Mangalore Commissioner’s office.

Hotels and restaurants have been ordered to organize New Year celebrations inside their premises. Police teams will be patrolling during December 31 night to prevent any untoward incident  or people creating nuisance on the pretext of exchanging New Year wishes.

The Traffic Department will also form teams including experts to detect drunken cases and also take stringent actions against those involved in drunken driving. This team will also prevent people from involving in wheeling, drag race and over speeding.

Consumption of liquor in the beaches is also  prohibited. People have also been banned from entering hostels or private residential complexes. Burning crackers has also been prohibited. The organizers have also been directed to possess fire extinguishers, first aid kits in case of emergency.

The Police Commissioner has stated that stringent action will be initiated against individuals and organizations found violating the rules.
