Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested a 24-year old youth who was allegedly involved in the Ulaibettu clash which subsequently led to communal violence recently.
Khalid, a resident of Ulaibettu was arrested near Arkula, close to Farangipet by CCB police and handed over to the Mangaluru police station, police said.
“He is not the key accused in the clash. But, he was in the group. We are looking for a few more based on the clues given by the arrested persons during the investigation”, the police clarified.
A police source said that Khalid had incited communal violence in Ullaibettu on December 4, by throwing away idols of serpent gods from a nagabana and also looting houses belonging to Hindus. After the incident Khalid had fled away from Ulaibettu.
The arrest was made by CCB Police Inspector Valentine D’Souza, PSI Shyamsundar H M under directions of Mangaluru City Commissioner of Police S Murugan, DCP (Law and Order) Santosh Babu and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Visnhuvardhan S.
