Mangalore : “Poetry can be considered the beginning of literature. All our ancient literature like the Vedas, epics and the Bible are all in the form of poetry,” said Jerry Pinto, renowned poet from Mumbai.

Delivering the third James and Shobha Mendonca Endowment Lecture on Poetry under the aegis of the Kavitha Trust at SDM College here on Saturday July 12, Jerry Pinto said penning a poem can improve the world. He described a poem that is left unwritten as a life that is left unsung.
Referring to the misconception that poetry is confined to towns and cities, Jerry Pinto spoke about tribal poetry. He said there was poetry for every point of time and every occasion in life.
Pinto was honoured on the occasion by Melvyn Rodrigues, President of Kavita Trust. Copies of Jerry Pinto’s books were presented to sponsor James Mendonca and K Devaraj, Principal of SDM College.
