Mangaluru: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a ‘Janata Curfew’ on March 22, people thronged the Central Market to purchase groceries, vegetables and other materials on Saturday, March 21.

As shop keepers have already announced their support to Modi’s ‘Janata Curfew’, the central market is likely to shut shop on Sunday. Hence, people thronged the central market and purchased essential items. This is an expected response from the public ahead of the Janata Curfew, as taxis, autorickshaws and private bus owners’ associations have already extended their support. As private buses will not ply in the district tomorrow, the whole district is likely to witness an undeclared bunk on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde visited the central market area and asked the vendors to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings. He also informed that health and other officials are creating awareness among the public about safety measures to prevent COVID-19 and cholera.
