Puttur : A physically challenged woman lost her life in a hit and run case  reported from near Mukrumpady on the Puttur-Sullia  Highway on August 6, Tuesday night.

The deceased woman has been identified as  Padmavathi(35), daughter of late Sheshappa Moolya-Gopi couple of Mukrumpady. She was leading a self-reliant life by running a petty shop close by the entrance of the KSRTC depot, through financial aid from the government.

The accident occurred when Padmavathi was walking towards home on Tuesday night after closing her shop. A pick-up vehicle which arrived from Puttur side knocked her down and dragged  her  upto a short distance before fleeing the scene. Padmavathi’s house  was located close by her shop and she used to walk her way home every night at  8 pm. However, on Tuesday tragedy struck in the form of the pick-up vehicle killing her on the spot.

Though  usually her elder brother’s children used to accompany her on way home, on Tuesday, Padmavathi was all alone.

Slushy road :  Either sides of the road where the accident took place were slushy due to the  construction works of a KSRTC workshop near the depot. Padmavathi was walking on the edge of the road when the mishap took place. Moreover the place was also devoid of street lights.
Meanwhile, police are on the look-out for the pick-up vehicle which led to the death of Padmavathi.

Just a few months ago two persons  had died after a  tipper fro, Bellary had knocked them down near  the Mukrumpady Bhagavathi Garage.
