Moodbidri: The crusher industry thriving in the pristine surrounding of Moortugudde that comes under the limits of Kadandale gram panchayat near here has been major of cause of worry for the locals, while the powerful explosives used to blast the boulders are not only causing noise pollution but also poses environmental threat.

The crusher industry set up about 15 years ago manufactures 300 to 400 units of jelly by blasting the huge boulders daily.  The mining for granite has already reached 150 feet below the earth.  The several acres of farmlands are withered owing to environmental pollution caused by crusher industry.  Despite the pleas to concerned department officials all that has been in vain, and the mining goes on unabated, complained a local peasant.

The jelly powder has been polluting the tributary of Shambavi river and also destroying the farmlands.  The farmers who were farming their fertile fields in year-round are not able to grow at least one crop, say local peasants Panduranga Nayak, Sanjeev Poojary and Vijay Mallya to media persons.

The untimely explosions and heavy vehicular traffic of dumpers withered the rural road leading to Subramanya temple.  The local students and peasants fear walking on these road because of marauding trucks.
