Sullia: The hospitals in Sullia are over-crowded as people complaining of fever have been thronging in large numbers. But, thanks to shortage of doctors in Sullia Taluk Hospital, the patients are made to wait for hours together.

Sullia Taluk Hospital over-crowded with people complaining of fever
It is a common scene during the monsoon, but as per the hospital staff, this year the numbers have increased.
Scared of Dengue, people suffering from fever, cold and other problems are rushing to the hospitals to get their blood tests done.
It is said that over 500 people come to Sullia Taluk hospital complaining of fever almost everyday. Waiting to be treated, people are seen resting on floor, benches, passages and other open spaces in the hospital.
But, the situation in Taluk Hospital is so pathetic that there are only three doctors doing the duty of ten doctors!
These doctors perform their duties at Out Patient Ward, hospital, emergency etc and are literally working round the clock.
The sources in the hospitals say that the number of patients suffering from fever has specifically gone up since Monday. Over the last one week alone, Sullia Taluk Hospital had 62 cases showing symptoms of Dengue. But, shortage of staff has been only adding to woes.
Sullia govt hospital has 48 in patients out of which 32 are patients complaining of fever and 24 are suspected Dengue cases, says Sullia Government Hospital Medical Officer Dr Karunakar.
Dengue fever symptoms have been mainly seen in areas like Aranthodi, Thodikana, Preaje, Panja, Madappady, Guthigaru, Bellare, Devachala, Yelimale and nearby areas over the last one month.
Though several plea have been made in the past to recruit doctors to the hospital, this demand has not been met.
