Mangalore : In a swift operation that proved the efficiency of the Pandeshwar police, a thief who had stolen a bag containing Rs 5.10 lakh cash was apprehended within an hour after the crime on December 6, Friday.
The incident took place when a man escaped with the cash bag of a Kannur man named Ayampady at Hampankata at around 8.45 am. Ayampady who owned a sweet shop at Kannur had arrived by a train from Kerala and was walking along with his brother at Hampankatta when his bag was snatched.
Ayampady wasted no time and lodged a complaint with Pandeshwar police station. The cops who swung into action soon found the thief near the Clock Tower and nabbed him. On questioning, he admitted his guilt. It is learnt, the accused named Omkar Shetty from Haveri, worked at a juice centre near Lady Goschen Hospital. Dinaker Shetty, Inspector, Shivarudrappa, PSI(Crime) and other personnel who swiftly caught the thief, have won appreciation.
