Bantwal : Pandemonium prevailed at a peace meeting convened at the Bantwal Town Police station on February 27, Thursday with a view to maintain peace and harmony in the town in the wake of various festivals, Hindu Sangama and other programmes in the taluk.

The meet was held under the leadership of Bantwal DySP Rashmi Paraddy. When a few participants sought action with regard to the inconvenience caused due to haphazard parking of autorickshaws and tourist car s at BC Road, the DYSP directed Sub Inspector Sanjay Kumar to initiate suitable action. But trouble began when TMC councillor Monish Ali and Zakaria urged the police authorities not to permit RSS leader Prabhaker Bhat to deliver any provocative speech at the Hindu Sangama at BC Road on March 2. The two had intervened the discussions pertaining to some provocative banners in the town.
At this juncture BJP leaders including Purusha N Salian, Charan Jumadigudde, Bharath, Mahabala Shetty, Parameshwar Aithal and others resented the raising of the name of Prabhaker Bhat unnecessarily at the meeting. Soon after, leaders entered into a heated exchange of words right in the presence of the DySP giving all indications that the very objective of the meet would be defeated.
The DySP took the warring leaders to task and added the police will not give scope for any untoward incident and will initiate suitable legal action. She also said the meet has been convened to discus certain issues and warned leaders against engaging in verbal duel. The DySP walked out of the meeting after saying so. The meet was later held in the presence of SI Sanjay Kumar.
