Bantwal: Over 50 residents of Kallagudde in  Bantwal Kasaba village  met TMC President  Vasanthi Chandappa and Chief Officer Mattadi at the TMC office on Tuesday July 15 and sought immediate  relief measures to the occupants of nearly 15 houses  in the area which are in danger after a  nearby hill caved in on July 12, Saturday due to heavy rains.

The delegation of the local residents including women was led by Ward Member Devadas Shetty.

An allegation is now heard that the levelling works of the hill taken up by some private persons during the previous summer, was the reason for the present problem. Though residents had then itself complained to the TMC officials, their failure to heed to the same, has now resulted in the caving in of the hill.

The affected people alleged that though the TMC Chief Officer, junior engineer and Tahsildar have visited the spot they have failed to take up relief measures.

In the meantime, the TMC President Vasanthi  convened a meeting on Tuesday evening along with the land owners, officials and  the affected families.  It was decided at the meeting to shift occupants of eight houses to safer areas and that the rent of their house has to be borne by the land owners. It was further resolved to direct the land owners to raise a retention wall and also that they will have to pay compensation to the affected people. The officials later  visited the affected area.
