Bantwal: The  frequent movement of heavy lorries  has  taken its toll on the Madanthyar-Kakkepadavu link road. Not only has the condition of the road turned deplorable, even a side drain has collapsed at  Padyaru near Parenki, posing much danger.

The collapse of the drain  has been posing a threat to motorists many of whom blame the heavy lorries which proceed on this road from the nearby stone quarries. It is learnt the drain collapsed after a lorry laden with stones veered to the extreme side of the road to make way for a school  vehicle and eventually rolled into the gorge.

Belthangady Tahsildar visited the place on Monday July 14 and took stock of the situation. Police have already fenced the dangerous spot with tapes and banners. A warning sign board has also been put up.

Madanthyar Gram Panchayat Member Dinesh has urged the authorities to take  immediate remedial measures failing which a protest would be launched.
