Mangaluru: Thieves decamped with temple ornaments running into lakhs of rupees from Uma Maheshwari Temple in Attavar, here in the city. The theft came to light on Thursday morning and it is estimated that silver ornaments costing over Rs 2 lakh have been stolen.The thieves, who gained entry into the temple by breaking open the temple lock, fled with ‘Kavachas’ (masks/shields) of presiding deity Shiva, Lord Krishna, Ganapathi and Vishnumurthy.
The gang had first destroyed two CCTV cameras and wrapped another with a cloth before executing the crime.
Fingerprint experts, canine squad and police examined the spot.
A case stands registered at Pandeshwar police station.
