Mulki : People of Tulunad have to resort to a struggle to  protect their land and culture  owing to the onslaught of western culture, said Bhasker Rai Kukkuvalli, noted folk scholar.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Tappangai game event as part of Tuluvere-Aati programme organised  at the Billawa Samaja Seva Sangha auditorium here on Sunday August 10 under the auspices of the Billawa Samaja Seva Sangha, Haleyangady and Yuvavahini.

Bhasker Rai said there was a greater need to introduce the folk games of the past to the present day children. He further regretted the fact that Tulu was not getting its due recognition owing to the disinterest shown by politicians towards the cause once they get elected after securing the votes of Tuluvas.

Ganesh G Bangera presided over the function. Dr Niketana, Haleyangady GP Chief Poornima Madhu, Haleyangady Lions Club President Mohan Suvarna, Jaya Suvarna and others were present.

Shakuntala Bhat   and Meerabai were felicitated for their contributions to literature and art and education and social fields respectively.
