World Autism Day. The registration began at 8.30 AM followed by the refreshments to the participants. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. P Chandramohan, H’ble Vice Chancellor, YU, Dr. CV Raghuveer, Registrar, YU and Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal, YNC. Mr. Saleem, student III B.Sc. Nsg. invoked God’s blessings. Mrs. Vineetha Jacob, HOD Dept. of Psychiatric Nursing welcomed the gathering and Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal, YNC spoke on the importance of the day followed by the presidential address by Dr. P Chandramohan, H’ble VC, YU, and the inaugural program was concluded by the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Priya Aranha, Asst. Professor, Dept of Pediatric Nursing, YNC. The workshop was attended by 71 participants including parents, teachers, health professionals and students.
The first session was on overview of ASD by Mrs. Umarani J, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of Pediatric Nsg., YNC. The next session was by Dr. Shree Krishna GN, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Pediatrics, YMC on Co-morbid medical condition in children with ASD. The third session was on Co-morbid psychiatric condition in children with ASD by Dr. Rohan Mendonsa, Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry, YMC. The last session for the morning was on training in improving cognitive skills in children with ASD by Dr. Elizabeth Daniel, Professor of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology, YMCH. Then the delegates had a short lunch break and then the noon session began at 2.00 PM which was on training in managing children with ASD by Dr. Elizabeth Daniel, Professor of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology, YMCH. Then the floor was open for discussion and the delegates shared their views and clarified doubts on the care of autistic children. Then the delegates were served with refreshments followed by the feedback given from the participants and the distribution of certificates to the delegates by Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal, YNC.
The participants were benefited to gain knowledge in improving cognitive skills and the methods to manage behavioral problems of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
