Mangaluru: Following the collapse of the Mullarapatna-Phalguni bridge on Monday, June 25, due to the heavy rainfall and the alleged sand mining carried out illegally in the Phalguni river, officials of National Highway Division and Public Works Department (PWD) held a technical inspection of the 93-year-old Gurupura bridge.

The inspection was conducted with help of a vehicle specially designed to inspect lower portion and deck slabs of the bridge. In order to facilitate the inspection vehicular movements was restricted on the bridge between 6 am to 10 am and traffic was diverted through Vamanjoor-Pachanady-Bondel-Kavoor-Bajpe-Kaikamba.

Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, PWD Superintendent Engineer Kantharaju said, ” National Highway Division officials have collected samples of the core deck slabs. These will be sent to a laboratory in Bengaluru. Within four days we will get a report on the condition of the bridge.”
