Mangaluru: Following requests from the members of MAGIS, an association of St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, Beeri and the intervention of MLA Ivan D’souza, the concerned authorities have assured to take action in 3 days to clear the garbage dumped in front of the campus.
A waste-bin was kept in front of the campus and soon it got over filled with waste. The students and residents from the area were affected. The unbearable foul smell and the stray dogs dwelling near the garbage created fear among the students to use the exit gate of the campus.
As the situation grew worse, students took a stand and vowed to clear the mess. On July 21, students from the college and the association met Kotekar Pattana Panchayath head and requested to remove the litter box in front of the college. Pattana Panchayath, President, Uday Kumar agreed on terms to solve the issue. The students also brought the issue to the notice of Ivan D’Souza, MLC and KPCC spokesperson and asked the concerned authority to immediately act on clearing the garbage.
As a result, on July 22, officials from Pattana Panchatyath, Revenue Inspector and Junior Engineer, inspected the area and decided to clear the area within three days and insert a bill board to inform the public and shift the garbage disposal box to another safer environment for further disposal. College students and residents from the area were present on the occasion.
